Leslie comes from a Spiritualist background, his parents were both mediums and his father was a trance medium, having served churches in the Northern District. He attended the Lyceum at Sheffield’s Clarkson SNU Street Spiritualist Church when able during the latter part of World War II. Leslie became actively involved as a healer in 1953, and served for a time as Vice President there.
He took along his girl friend, Marjorie to the church in 1957 and they were married at this church in 1960 by the President of the SNU, Charles Quastel. He and his wife developed their mediumship over the years and became members of Worksop SNU Church in 1978. Leslie has served on the church committee ever since that time. It was a case of having to do so, because the church then had only 3 people running it! Now it has a very well organised committee that actively supports SNU philosophy. Leslie has also served on the East Midlands District Council as President, Vice President and Committee member and Marjorie as Secretary and Committee member.
Prior to becoming a Minister of the SNU, Leslie and his wife, studied the education courses and in 1983 became platform speakers and demonstrators, taking workshops on various subjects. They both attended the Arthur Findlay College on various course weeks over the years and are very appreciative of the training given.
Leslie served on the Ministers Administration Committee for 3 years and was actively involved in the training programme at that time.
As well as being available for official duties, he currently helps trainee ministers and officiants to obtain the standards required by the SNU.

The Ministership of the Spiritualists' National Union is the
highest appointment the Union can confer and is accorded to those who have been
selected as worthy to represent Spiritualism by their bearing and example as
Ministers of Religion. SNU Ministers have governmental recognition as Ministers
of Religion on a par with other denominations, with all the rights and
privileges accorded to these, such as the authority to sign passports and to
visit Spiritualists upon request in hospitals, HM Forces and HM Prisons.
